Raspberry Pi

Raspberry Pi

Raspberry Pi is the embedded computer we use throughout all examples on this site. It contains an ARM processor which does all of the computation, and it comes with quite a few input and output ports (most notable the General-purpose Input / Output (GPIO) that allow for communication with the outside world.

Note that the model in the picture above is a Raspberry Pi Model 1 B which has a 26 pin GPIO. Other Raspberrys might also have 40 pin GPIOs (i.e.Pi 1 Model A+ & B+, Pi 2 Model B, Pi 3 Model B, and Pi Zero).

Count your pins twice before you buy a breakout kit for your specific model! 26 pin breakout kits are incompatible with 40 pin GPIO and vice versa. odel! 26 pin breakout kits are incompatible with 40 pin GPIO and vice versa.
